Kalyanikuttyamma was a doyen of Mohiniyaattam and was instrumental in reviving the dance form in the 20th century. The art form had fallen from grace with its overt emphasis on romance and eroticism. After completing her studies under Krishna Panicker Asan, Kalyanikuttyamma composed a number of varnams, padams, and tillanas which liberated Mohiniyaattam from the clutches of shringaram (romance) and gave it a place among other classical dances of India. In her illustrious career, Kalyanikuttyamma was honoured with many accolades by Kendra Sangeet Nataka Academy, Kerala Kalamandalam (Fellowship), Kerala Fine Arts Society (Natya Praveena), Madhya Pradesh Government (Kalidasa Puraskar), among others.
